Moving Qi For A Vital Life: Walking Qi Gong—LUNCH OUTDOOR SERIES

We will meet at the north end of the lake near the bathrooms next to the large wading pool. We will then walk a little to the east on the walking trail into a grassy area  nearby where we can practice amongst the trees. Please arrive at least 5 minutes early so we can begin walking to our practice spot at noon.


At it’s most simple level Qi Gong is a basic practice of following and staying present for the continuously unfolding and changing senses of life force energy as these changes move through you. We will be starting at the beginning in this Qi Gong class: Beginner’s mind. Appropriate for those who have practiced Qi Gong, are practicing, and those who never have and/or want to begin. Beginner’s mind is always profound.

Qi Gong is an ancient system of self-healing consisting of gentle movement exercises that combine breath, slow movement, self-massage, and meditation to harmonize the body, mind and spirit. A dedicated practice can provide countless benefits including increasing calmness, reducing blood pressure, anxiety, musculoskeletal pain, regulating the neruoimmunological system and enhancing resilience,strength, balance and vitality.

You can drop in or attend regularly. We will start each class with some foundational basics and then slowly over this series learn the Walking Qi Gong breathing/walking patterns for balancing and strengthening the main energetic channels.

These Walking Qi Gong movements involve a simple breathing and walking pattern for each of the solid organ energetic meridians (Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung and Kidney). These meridians are also each correlated with one of the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water). In China you will see large groups of people doing these walking Qi Gong practices. The picture is from my 2007 trip to China where this group of women were doing Xi Xi Hu walking in a park.

When practiced regularly these walking Qi Gong movements create a very powerful strengthening of the immune system and are used specifically to treat and prevent cancer. Strengthening our immune systems is one of the most profound benefits that occurs from regular Qi Gong practice.

Doing these walking patterns outside in a group communing with large elder trees sets the conditions for these practices to land even more deeply within you.


In Daoist and Chinese cosmology, spirit is known as Shen. When Shen meets the body or form (which is called Jing), then Qi is born. All ‘dis’-ease begins with a disturbance at the spirit level. Qi Gong is the practice that transforms that ‘dis’-ease. A true transformation in the body.

Utilizing specific breathing and walking patterns, this practice is often known as Xi Xi Hu walking in China. It is a beautiful and energetic practice that anyone can do.

No prior Qi Gong experience necessary. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for changing weather.
